California court upholds same-sex marriage ban

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Jeezus fucking H.  This is absolute bullshit!  At least I can be thankful that my friends S&B are still considered married.  It's a bitter congratulations though.  And what the fuck is with Obama not saying anything?  He had the support of almost every openly Queer person in this nation and now what?  Please, Mr. President, don't be a fair-weather friend.  As I understand it, never before have our civil rights been put to popular vote.  For a court to uphold this precedent, makes a mockery of not only our legislative system and our national values, but of our court system as well.  Can this go to the US Supreme Court?  I damned well hope to see it there.  See it shot down.

All I have to say is this:   "Greater than the tread of mighty armies is an idea whose time has come."  - Victor Hugo, as far as I know.  There is no stopping this.  There is only stalling and obstacles that shall be overcome.  I can only hope that victory will be all the sweeter for the fight that we have put up in defense of our rights!

And yet one more fandom! Heroes, Star Trek and a bit of ZOMG

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Okay, first a little fanish backstory.  I first discovered fandoms and the amazing world of fanfiction at the tender age of 13.  Star Trek: TOS was my very first fandom and K/S began my love for slash at an age when I was far too young to be reading such things! ;-)  Then Harry Potter happened and I suddenly had two fandoms.  Somewhere in there I discovered that some absolutely brilliant folks had taken it upon themselves to slash my beloved Holmes and his dear Watson.

Then I started college, and as I'm sure anyone who's ever been can tell you, there was little time for fan-squee.  I was focused elsewhere for a while and then when I came running back to fandom it was to Harry Potter and Sherlock Holmes.  Somewhere between adolescence and adulthood my love for Trek had waned.  I still hung on to my old books but gave up most of the other memorabilia.  I had no regrets.  I was left with a distant fondness and what I came to think of as a slash-fiction legacy.  I moved on and that was all good.  Totally cool.  Yeah.

Until Zachary Quinto.   Now, don't get me wrong.  There isn't a soul in existence who could replace the inimitable Leonard Nimoy.  But ZOMG Quinto brought it all rushing back to me.  I'm head over heels for the Human-Vulcan hybrid all over again!  I have a feeling that J.J. Abrams, Roberto Orci, and Alex Kurtzman may have a little to do with this as well.  However, seeing Zach Quinto's amazing performance had me racing to watch all the episodes of Heroes.  The show was awesome and I was hooked before I ever layed eyes on Quinto's character, Sylar, who doesn't show up until eight episodes in and it's not until the tenth that we get a good look at him.

So I started watching Heroes on a Friday night only to wake up shaking my head on the following Wednesday, three quarters the way through the entire show!  LMAO   I haven't felt this level of single-mindedness in years!  I've breathed a bit and managed to pace myself.  I'm finished watching all the episodes and I think I'm going to be just fine.

Now I find myself with a new fandom!  One that hasn't been written in nearly enough.  The show is funny and exciting but very dark and intense.  I find myself hungering for some absolutely sick and disturbing fanfics.  So if anyone can help, please:

Point me to your sickest most depraved Heroes fanfic!  Thank you!

Star Trek 2009 - Spoiler-ish

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

I saw the new Star Trek movie on Monday and I cannot believe how much I loved it.  I've been head over heels for TOS since I was 12, but I'd kinda forgotten how much I enjoyed the characters.  This completely re-opened my interest.  Mostly, I just can't believe I'd forgotten how unforgivingly HAWT Spock is!    Jeez, I'm going back to see the IMAX experience but we're going to have to bring a fire-extinguisher to put me out!  So, yeah.  I'm totally slashing new Spock and new Kirk.  And I'm adding Uhura to the mix, cuz damn!  That was steamy.   How can one kiss be heartbreaking and unimaginably sexy at the same time?!  Definitely my favourite on-screen lip lock of 2009.

Ciao

Please feel free to post this link elsewhere. And please only take this survey if you are Lesbian, Gay or Bisexual.

Hello old friend

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Wow! It's been a while since I've been on here. At first I was sick and busy with work and holidays. The dizzy spells have become rarities and now I have zero hours at the bookstore due to economy and everyone's hours being cut. Being the new kid that means I get to take the brunt of the after holiday hours cuts.

I snagged a quiz from gin_tonic. It was a clever little thing but I'm not at all surprised with the results.

Your result for The Harry Potter Husband Test...

Mrs. Snape

Your perfect HP man is Severus Snape.

You like a guy of loyalty and intelligence and don't really mind if he comes across as a bit harsh. Or a bit bastardy. Or if he happens to terrify every child who crosses his path. The point is that under that rough exterior lies...well, a rough interior. But under that is a soft, squishy center and you don't mind at all that you're the only person in the world who gets to see it.

Creepy sickness

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
So, I was at work on tuesday - I work at a book store - when the whole world just tilted on its side and I landed on the floor. I was really disoriented and I thought I had passed out but I guess I didn't loose consciousness. But I was so dizzy my boss and a co-worker had to help me to the back room. They called [info]glass_dancer who left work and came and picked me up. I had had a nice breakfast not three hours before and hadn't skipped a meal lately so it was clearly not my blood sugar. I'm 23 years old and in fairly good health but I was so dizzy even nearly an hour after falling that [info]glass_dancer had to help me to the car. He wanted to take me to the hospital but I really just wanted to go home, so we compromised and stopped at a pharmacy on the way home so that I could take my blood pressure. I thought perhaps it was low and that had caused the dizzy spell. I've had trouble with ulcers on a few occasions, so I thought perhaps I had a bleeder. My blood pressure was fine but the machine also takes your heart rate and mine was 58 beats per minute. It's normally about 72. This was a bit concerning but we were only a few blocks from home so I said I'd go to the doctor in the morning if I still wasn't feeling well. The dizziness eventually lifted for a few hours only to come back for another few and repeat the cycle.

In the morning I was still dizzy so I called into work and [info]glass_dancer took me to the emergency room. They were very busy and it took us two hours to get in and I was there for another eight hours while they made pin cushions of my arms (10 sticks: four to get my first IV, including the most painful needle poke I've had since the spinal tap when I was nine. She put it in my wrist and dug around for a while until I screamed and made her stop. Another five pokes, including a blown vein were required to find a vessel that would give up it's precious fluid; then a tenth and final poke to a very deep vein in the crook of my elbow when they realized that the IV in my hand was too small for the purposes of a CAT scan). They ran loads of tests on blood and urine and gave me an ECG and a CAT scan. I had an allergic reaction to the IV/Iodine contrast in the CAT scan that swelled my face up and forced them to put five big syringes full of steroids, benadryl, and pepcid into the small IV in my hand. That hurt really bad as well since the IV was on the hand that had had the wrist obliterated by needle.

Anyway, they ruled out a blood clot in/near my heart and determined that I have an abberant subclavian artery though they said that should have nothing to do with this. Apparently they felt I was well enough to be packed off home and sent to my primary care physician. So I have an appointment for 1:15 today and absolutely no idea how I'm going to pay as I don't have insurance and I'm flat broke!

I'm dizzy even now and this has been a terribly creepy illness. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thanks.

Yes We Did

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I was 14 years old when George W. Bush was first elected president of the USA. My eyes had just opened to politics and already I knew he was not someone I could love or trust. He did not represent me. My entire political life he has been the leader of this country.

I was 16 when we were thrust into a war against terror, an intangible notion. I saw friends, children I had grown up with, march off to fight. For what, our freedom, others' freedom? Sometimes. For our ideology, undoubtedly. For oil? I'm sure. We didn't always know. Some have returned with nightmares and flashbacks, unable even to watch the fireworks we light to celebrate the nation they fought for. Some will never return. I wish with everything that I could say I am proud of all of them, because I am proud of so many. But I can never be proud of a torturer. There were those few. Some whose faces I looked into in press photos and wondered, 'could you have gone to one of my birthday parties? Would I have thought you were evil when we were kids? No, I can't imagine I would.'

As a teenager I came to terms with being bisexual in a country where everyone is expressing their beliefs on the rights that I am to be allowed. Passionately, over half of them have argued that women cannot marry women and that men cannot marry men. Last night, Arkansas approved a measure to ban unmarried couples from adopting or fostering children. They aim to prevent gay couples from raising children. Arizona, Florida and California, a state whose court ruled marriage between same sex couples constitutional earlier in 2008, passed measures to amend their constitutions to prohibit same-sex marriage.

Still we are at war. Still my country does not know if I deserve the same rights as all heterosexual citizens. Still we are living in the second greatest depression. And still I am filled with exuberant hope! Last night, for the first time in my life, someone I voted for won. For the first time in my life I am represented! I would like to welcome President-Elect Barack Obama to his new responsibilities. Sir, I cannot bid you ‘no pressure’.

I loved this so I just had to take it! Looks like alwaysasnapefan and I have pretty similar tastes. Not surprising, really, fabulous as we both are!

Your result for What Your Taste in Art Says About You Test...

Traditional, Vibrant, and Tasteful

9 Islamic, -8 Impressionist, -11 Ukiyo-e, -9 Cubist, -1 Abstract and 0 Renaissance!

Islamic art is developed from many sources: Roman, Early Christian, and Byzantine styles were taken over in early Islamic architecture; the architecture and decorative art of pre-Islamic Persia was of paramount significance; Central Asian styles were brought in with various nomadic incursions; and Chinese influences . Islamic art uses many geometical floral or vegetable designs in a repetitive pattern known as arabesque. It is used to symbolize the transcendent, indivisible and infinite nature of Allah.

People that like Islamic art tend to be more traditional people that appreciate keeping patterns that they learned and experienced from their past. It is not to say that they are not innovative personalities, they just do not like to let go of their roots. They like to put new ideas into details and make certain that they will work before sharing them with others. Failure is not something they like to think about because they are more interested in being successful and appreciated for their intelligence. These people can also be or like elaborate things in their life as long as they are tasteful. They tend to prefer geometric patterns and vibrant colors.

Found this on flist via cruisedirector first thing this "morning". However, morning meant noon for me today since I'm having trouble waking up again. It's like I keep dreaming and I just can't wake up. Idk, pretty sure I have a sleeping disorder though. Anyhwo, the rules of the game are these: Take a picture of yourself, right now. Don't change your clothes, don't fix your hair, just take a picture. Post that picture with no editing and post these instructions with it. So here is a picture of me within ten minutes of waking up!
Here I am )

Maggie's Kinkology

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

I've been working on the website.  Maggie's kinkology, that is.   It's a conceptual archive; a place to archive HP fanfic that include kinks or fetishes. I'm hoping to some day include more than just Harry Potter but that's my main fandom and it's huge.  I knew the archive was going to be a lot of work but may I just take a moment to say ZOMG!!!  :-P  It's rewarding tho.  I feel like I'm actually starting to get somewhere.  This is just like me to take on such a big project as my first attempt at a webpage.  I have no idea what I'm doing half the time and right now I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to organize the stories themselves.  I may have to write someone and ask for advice.  It's getting time to start hunting down authors and asking permission to archive their stories anyway.

In the meantime, I'm brewing over my Snupin Santa piece.  I've got the first concept written out already but there are another three sections at least to the story and it looks like I'm gonna have to do some outlining.  That's fine, it's just something I like to avoid for as long as I can because sometimes I later feel boxed in by an outline.  Overall, things are going well.
